Specification:
Power Supply: 2X 10KV 50mA Neon transformers in parallel.
Primary: 10 turns of 10mm. dia. copper tube.
Secondary: 1000T 0.5mm. dia. copper wire on 125mm. dia. polythene former.
Capacitor: 0.015uF (48 0.047uF 1500V capacitors in series-parallel)
Spark Gap: Static - Planar arrangement of eight 120mm. lengths of 22mm. copper tube.
Terminal: 300mm. dia. spun aluminium sphere.
Operating frequency: 185KHz.
Notes:
Capacitor rack organised to take "trays" of one or two series strings of 0.047uF capacitors.
Total capacitance can be varied incrementally, and defective strings replaced.
Secondary coil former (water pipe) is part filled with candle wax to eliminate internal flash-over.
Inductors at bottom of pic 4 are suppression chokes to keep high frequency currents out of neon transformers.
(Chokes are 1000T on 25mm. dia formers.)
Octagonal base (MDF) designed to stow secondary coil and sphere for transit.
Why an octagonal pillar base with locking door?? Always wanted to make one!
